CLEP Test Preparation

With the recession still in full swing, many Americans find themselves out of work. And with the job outlook looking bleak, many of these unemployed people are deciding that it's a prime time to further their education. Gaining a college degree is a productive way to spend their time of unemployment, and such a degree will improve their job outlook in the future.

But potential students should realize that there are many paths to the college degree. Particularly when money is tight, it's important to find the most cost-efficient path to the college degree. While many people choose to attend community college in order to avoid the tuition rates of universities, they are overlooking an even more cost-efficient way to earn college credit. This little penny-pinching gem is known as The College Level Examination Program or CLEP.

Although the process of preparing for a CLEP may seem daunting, there are many different CLEP prep courses they can provide you with valuable insight and knowledge in a short amount of time. You can actually complete some CLEP prep programs in just a couple days, and a lot of them are readily available online. The people who run these programs stay up to date on CLEP exams and the material involved, so they are often your best source for current testing information.

As you continue to do CLEP test prep you will learn that the CLEP exams are timed tests, usually taking ninety minutes, and consists mostly of multiple-choice questions with some fill-in-the-blanks. One of the English exams is made up primarily of a written essay. Now instead of worrying about the test format, you can begin to formulate effective strategies for succeeding in the particular testing format as part of your CLEP test preparation.

CLEP stands for College Level Examination Program. CLEP exams are a series of tests offered over a variety of subject areas by the College Board. You will want to check in with your college academic guidance counselor to find out which CLEP exams your particular school offers, and how many credits can be earned through testing. Thirty four CLEP exams are offered by the College Board, but your school may not offer every exam, so it makes sense to plan ahead and determine this well in advance.

You will want to head over to the College Board's website, where you will learn a great deal about the CLEP test you wish to take. Their informative website will describe each test in detail, and will also offer tips for what topics you will want to study and be familiar with before you take the CLEP exam.
